“We Drift Apart” (Poetry)

Here I tell a story,
Of the time we met,
On a vast digital sea,
Many ages past.

Six thousand miles apart,
Connected all the same.
Each seeking refuge,
From turbulent waves.

Like a boat on calm waters,
On a sea of deep sorrows.
A sunbeam shining,
Warm and inviting.

An island on the sea,
During a storm of fate,
Glistening sands of time,
Foretell a future in wait.

A friend in times of need,
Apart in times between.
A push and pull, night and day,
Yet hope still remained.

But, alas, we must depart,
This worn harbor at length,
From which we’ll find strength,
To weather the storms at heart.

May your boat drift peacefully,
Into a place of calm waters,
Where you find the love,
You truly desire.

As we are growing up, we may make a connection when the seas of life are turbulent. We may drift apart at times, yet still keep each other in our memories — drifting back at various points, as if drawn together. We cherish the times we shared our stories and cried on each other’s shoulders, lifting each other up during times of uncertainty and struggle.

During these periods apart, we experience life in its happiest and most sorrowful moments — from love to heartbreak. As time passes, we mature and realize who we are.

We grow apart and change, but we can learn from these friends when we take a moment to reflect on times past — with gratitude and love. In this way, even lost connections are valuable. And from this, we grow wiser.
